Your first Game Mode session

Profiles per game, what changes while you play, and how everything is put back.

Build the library

The Game Mode tab finds the games on your phone by itself. Missing one? Tap Add and pick it. Each game shows how long you played it in the last seven days.

Set a profile

  1. Tap a game. Its profile follows your global default until you switch on This game only.
  2. Pick what should change while you play. Each row says what it needs: nothing, privileged access, or root.
  3. Open What gets changed to see the full list in plain words.

What a profile can change

Without access: do not disturb, closing background apps before the game, a brightness lock.

With privileged access: pinning the screen’s highest refresh rate, fixed performance mode, Android’s game mode for that game, precompiling the game to cut first-run stutter, Private DNS, a mistouch lock.

With root: CPU and GPU governors and thermal profiles.

Play

  1. Start the game from its row, or from the Game Mode tile in Quick Settings.
  2. A notification shows the session is running. Overlays you switched on appear over the game.
  3. Swipe in from the edge of the screen for the side panel: quick toggles and a screenshot.
  4. Leave the game. Everything the session changed goes back to how it was, and the match report is ready.

How everything is put back

Before a setting is changed, its old value is written to a journal on your phone. When the game closes, the journal is played back. If the app is closed in the middle of a session, it plays the journal back the next time it starts.

A few settings are meant to stay per game, such as Android’s game mode for it. Those stay until you tap Revert everything under What gets changed, which puts back every setting the app ever changed, for every game.
