Reading a match report
Every Game Mode session ends with a report. Here is what each number means.
Frame rate
- Average FPS
- Frames shown divided by time played.
- 1% low
- The average of the slowest 1% of frames. This is the stutter you notice. A good match keeps it close to the average.
- 0.1% low
- The same for the slowest 0.1%: the worst hitches.
- 99% within
- 99% of frames took this long or less, in milliseconds.
- Longest frame
- The single longest wait between two frames.
- Freezes
- Seconds with a frame over 83 ms. Long freezes: over 125 ms.
Battery and heat
- Average power
- Watts drawn while off the charger.
- Energy used
- Watt-hours for the match, and millijoules per frame.
- Heat
- How far the match warmed the battery from where it started.
“Why did it lag?”
The report finds the moments that went wrong: a second below 70% of the match’s usual frame rate, a frame over 100 ms, or a ping spike. The first 20 seconds are left out as loading. Next to each moment it puts what was measured then, in this order: heat, battery saver, another app keeping the CPU busy, the network.
Because the explanation is worked out when you open a report, a better analysis in a later update also explains your old matches.
Graphs
One lane per measure on a shared timeline: frame rate, temperature, ping. The frame-time histogram shows how often each frame time happened, which separates a steady game from a jumpy one with the same average.
