Why can’t I get 90 or 120 FPS?

Go through these in order. Most of the time it is one of the first three.

The checklist

The display. No game shows more frames than the screen refreshes. Pick the highest rate under Settings › Display, and pin it during sessions in Game Mode.
Battery saver. It holds the refresh rate and the GPU back, and so do the power modes phone makers add.
Heat. A hot phone slows down on purpose. That is why frames often drop after a few minutes.
The game. Its own menu decides which frame rates it offers. Some games show 90 and 120 only on phones they have listed, and only at lower graphics settings.
Restart the game. A game reads its frame rate when it starts. After a change, force-stop it and start it again.

Ask the assistant on the Home tab “why not 120?”. It goes through this list on your phone and tells you which one applies.
