Network and ping

Measures your connection instead of promising to boost it.

No setup In 2.0

Available in 2.0. Install it from the Extensions tab.

No app can shorten the path between your phone and a game server, whatever a “ping booster” promises. What you can change is the Wi-Fi band, the signal and the region you play on. This extension measures exactly those.

Highlights

Your connection

Wi-Fi band, signal, link speed and the Private DNS in force. Tips only for what applies: a VPN in the way, a weak signal, 2.4 GHz, mobile data.

Game regions

13 cloud regions, five probes each. The median round trip, jitter and loss, fastest first.

DNS providers

The four Private DNS providers Game Mode offers, tested on the port Private DNS really uses. A provider that doesn’t answer there is refused with the reason.

Use while playing

Puts the DNS provider you picked into your Game Mode profile, switched on during games and back afterwards.

Set it up

  1. Install Network and ping from the Extensions tab. Measuring needs no access.
  2. Open it on the connection you play on and wait for the regions to answer.
  3. Tap the region you play on: the FPS overlay then measures your ping to it.

Using it

What to act on

Jitter and loss matter more than a few milliseconds of ping. If the signal is weak or you are on 2.4 GHz, move closer to the router or switch to its 5 GHz network. Those are the changes that show up in a match.

DNS

Switching DNS changes how names are looked up, not your in-game ping. Pick a provider that answers fast and reliably, that is all it does.

What it needs

Permission or accessWhy
Nothing to measureEvery measurement works without setup.
Privileged accessOnly to switch Private DNS during a game.

Limits

  • Region round trips measure the cloud region, not one particular game server in it.

Questions

Can the app lower my ping?

No. No app can. It shows you what you can act on: the band, the signal and which region answers fastest from where you are.
